Pilot Episodes
What are pilots?

Pilots are typically the first or second episode of a television show's series.  Pilots are used as a test for both the television studio and the television networks to determine which shows have the potential be "picked up" for next year's season.  Not all shows that tape a pilot are picked up for the season, as a matter of fact, only a small percent are picked up for a half season, and even fewer continue on for a year or more.

From Audiences Unlimited...
"Pilots" are the first episodes of new shows proposed for the new Fall TV Season! Tickets are available for new shows starring Jamie Foxx, Wayne Brady, Ken Olin, Matt Letscher, Bonnie Somerville, Sisqo, Bob Newhart, Debi Gutierrez, French Stewart and more!

When are pilots taped?

Pilot season is usually in March of each year for the following season.  For example pilots for the 2001-2002 season are taped in March 2001.
